RSS feeds and subscriptions

You can subscribe to "Humanitarian News" in different ways, and even generate your own feed.

1. Subscribe to one of the feeds

  • You can either subscribe to all updates or to updates of the individual sections
  • For each feed, you can subscribe to the direct RSS feed (as generated by this site), to the Feedburner RSS feed (which has a slightly different formatting), or get the daily updates automatically via Email (sample)

2. Generate your own RSS feed

You can now generate your own feed with the latest updates based on any search criteria:

  • Type in any search criteria in the search box and hit "search"
The search arguments "OR" or "AND" need to be in UPPERCASE e.g. "Sudan AND drought"
  • Above the search results, you will see the XML button next to the search box:
Generate an RSS feed from any search
  • Hit the "XML" button and your feed will be generated on the spot
  • Save that URL in your RSS reader or bookmark. It will be automatically updated each time new items on your search topic are posted
  • A shortcut is to directly type the URL for the feed using the syntax:
    http://humanitariannews.org/opensearch/node/searchcriteria
    For instance: http://humanitariannews.org/opensearch/node/Sudan
  • Make sure you make the search "general" enough. For instance if you are interested in IDP's then use as search argument: IDP OR "Internally Displaced" OR "Internal Displaced" rather than just IDP.

3. Make your own Email alerts

Using a free, fast and furious tool like XFruits, you can easily convert any customized RSS feed created in step (2), into an automated daily or hourly Email with the latest items. Here is an example I created for Sudan.
